PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

2021.05-May-Frederick-Low-768x724.jpeg

Greetings from the Singapore Association for Counselling!

Welcome to our microsite set up to mark our 40th Anniversary. Back in 1982, a small group of professional counsellors were practicing in Singapore, many were trained overseas. Led by the late Anthony Yeo from Counselling & Care Centre, they laid the foundation of a professional Association for Counselling known as SAC today!

40 years have passed. The Singapore Association for Counselling has been playing its role as the key professional body for counsellors and for the counselling profession. From gathering practitioners to establishing professional standards, ethical guidelines, recognition of training courses and publishing a register of counsellors that is accessible to the public, benefiting many as the profession grows both in demand and supply. More recently, SAC supported the establishment of the National Care Hotline when the Covid-19 pandemic hit Singapore in 2020, as part of our role in Nation-building and community service.

SAC also participates actively in dialogues and collaboration with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Social and Family Development and the Family Justice Courts. SAC is a full member of the National Council of Social Service in Singapore and a member of the International Association for Counselling.

I welcome you to this microsite to walk down the memory lane with us, celebrate the many milestones, hear from our partners and stakeholders and most important of all, join us in the many events lined-up for members and friends!

See you soon!

A/Prof Frederick Low
SAC President (2022 - 2024)
