Mr Masagos Zulkifli

Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health

Congratulations to Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) on your 40th anniversary!

This is a significant milestone. SAC has been an important partner in the counselling sector since 1982, leading in pioneering efforts to establish a register of counsellors and set standards for the profession.

You have developed counselling courses and reviewed post-graduate counselling programmes. These initiatives have laid the foundation for the development of the counselling profession in Singapore.

Today, mental health and mental well-being is well-recognized as an issue needing the attention and support of all segments of our society. We need social service professionals to work alongside medical professionals to provide integrated care.

As a professional body, SAC’s membership has grown from a small group when it was formed to over 1,000 members today, comprising counsellors, therapists, and students. I am confident that SAC’s training and resources will continue to support the professional and personal development of the professionals in meeting the mental health needs of the nation.

I look forward to SAC’s continued good work to build up the capabilities of the social service sector, so that we, as a society, can nurture and uplift lives together.
